Once burned...well nearly, I am wiser (now). I will be burning CDs to archive my photos and genealogy. I am also actively setting "set points" on my "Recovery" under "systems", not just counting on the system doing so. I had been able to use "recovery" tro recover to a point before the internet problem. It was only after my husband (a systems guy) decided to "clean up" the drives that we encountered seemingly irreversible damage...and by then, the set points had been wiped out. Needless to say, this was one of our points of discussion. I'm wiser and if you are reading this don't do as I did; back up, back up, back up!

I am very glad you crisis was mostly averted. I keep all my photos on a separate external hard drive just for such occasions. So far it hasn't burned me (knock on wood).
