I am about to list the last of the signed, unfinished oak threaders on Etsy.

These two photos display oak, SIGNED, unfinished spinning wheel threaders I am planning to list for sale on my Etsy site. I am no longer accepting direct sales but will make all future sales through Etsy.

I have a very few people who previously contacted me directly through Ravelry that I am working with before listing the spinning wheel threaders on Etsy. I expect to complete those sales before weeks end when I again will be listing these unfinished threaders for sale. (The threaders can be purchased unfinished or finished.)

Currently, Rick Reeves is engaged in another project and is not turning threaders. He will be away from the lathe over the summer but promises more threaders in the fall. He may even be able to send a few before his summer hiatus. Will keep you posted on this site.

You’ll notice the unfinished threader lurking behind the can and the finished threader in the foreground. For more about threaders, please read previous posts.

Above, eye candy; included in the last batch of Rick Reeves Spinning Wheel hooks for a while are several signed hardwood hooks. Rick has another project and then will be away from the lathe for the summer. I’m posting photos to give everyone an idea of what will be listed soon. I will be listing some on eBay and some on Etsy.

There are SIGNED, unfinished oak hooks that have the tab that fits into the hole in the spinning wheel. They are unfinished so that they can be finished by the buyer to match their own spinning wheel. I will finish the hooks with Watco Danish Oil upon request.

I’m selling newly hand turned oak and brass threading hooks on Etsy. The hooks were turned by Rick Reeves, Spinning Wheel builder, master craftsman.

I had the delight yesterday afternoon to meet Susan of the Sassy Spinster just south of Dallas in Lancaster, Texas. She generously allowed me to spin on the rare Rick Reeves walnut hand made spindle (spinning) wheel that she has on consignment. The experience was made even more special as I was accompanied by her singing canary.

The wheel evidences all the wood working craftsmanship of Rick Reeves, although not as delicately as his wheels adorned with hand turned spindles and florishes. The spindle itself, disengages from the sizable floor size wheel and can be used as a drop spindle. The wheel in signed and dated (1980) documenting its provenance.

The shop itself caters to spinners, knitters & small loom weavers with generous bins of fiber and specialty yarns. The main room has a number of wheels to “try on” and is decorated with welcoming stuffed chairs. In addition to the wheels, there’s an assortment of specialty yarns. In the back workroom a huge barn loom being restored takes center stage surrounded by tri-looms, rigid heddle and other smaller looms. The store offerings include a good measure of fiber dyes, knitter’s needles and assorted small accessories. Susan offers various lessons in the tranquil country setting.

In all, a delightful afternoon diversion.

I’ve been enjoying the most delightful fiber, Gale’s Art Blueface Swirl. I discovered this “Limited Edition” fiber at the Ashville Fiber Festival last October and only now have begun spinning. It is a luscious hand dyed blue face leicester fiber in blues, greens and purple swirled with undyed natural brown. The brown provides depth to this scrumptious mix. I have 4 oz to spin and it’s spinning up like a dream. (Very well processed and dyed.) Spinning lace weight with a lacey shawl in mind.

I met Gale at the Festival and enjoyed our brief conversation. (In addition to the fiber, I also bought two Trindals.) She’s knowedgeable and enthusiatic about fiber. You can contact Gale Evans and/or purchase her fiber HERE
