Sandi got her “neutral” socks. They fit!! What fun.

Thanks to the Kitchener Stitch toe video, my sock toes are looking better. Sandi didn’t think her mom would make purple, orange and green socks … she did and she’s gonna wear them. The next pair will be in earth tones for my conservative daughter.

Left to right, needle generously loaned by Jacquie Grant of New Zealand which was modified to fit her Twombly and this is a working sock machine, second from left, sample needle provided by Groz-Beckert after they generously invested their time in researching a possible available needle and the last needle (on the right) one of six in the machine as found in an estate sale through eBay.

Franz & Pope sock machine is for sale. Cleaned up and knitting, the sock machine runs smooth.

“Restorer”, Jacquie Grant, at Kiwi House, NZAK, home of the newly manufacturered New Zealand Auto Knitters, provided photo of needle which was modified to work in her Twombly. That working Twombly is one of over 200 sock machines in her collection.

To mount the sock machine I modified a stool from the bare furniture store, cutting out a bit to accomodate the screw clamp and adding a hidden weight underneath (10# barbell weight) to help offset the cantelievered weight of the sock machine.

She’s a beauty. Now all I need is needles.

In Search Of (ISO) needles for Twombly Sock Machine. Photo below shows dimensions needed. From “heel” (bottom tip) to “butt” (protrusion), 1/2″; overall length needed 1 7/8″. Could actually be a bit longer. Any suggestions?

Am in need of needles for Twombly Sock Machine …. collectors help me out. Photo of needle. Two on the left are from an Auto Knitter (knitter and ribber needles), the one on the right is a Twombly.
