French “frog” Spindle Holder

I was looking for a spindle holder to both keep and display some of my spindles. I wanted to pick them up and spin easily when I got the notion. I discovered an antique French flower frog on eBay which was plenty deep to hold the spindle shafts.

Hand Spun & Knit Top Down Beaded Shawl

Used hand spun beaded yarn to create top down beaded shawl. The yarn is wool and alpaca. The spinning process was described HERE and HERE in the blog. The beads are silver lined glass beads and antique Chec beads from an old lamp. I’d gotten an ounce of Momi fiber (wool, silk and glitter the color of sunset) from the Ashville fiber festival which I spun on the Trindle I’d purchased at the festival. Too little yarn for a project but worked great to provide an accent of colored lace.

I used the same pattern as the pink top down shawl

And, an interesting aside. Lacy, my mostly border collie … just learned she has no discernable border collie DNA. Had her DNA run through Wisdom DNA thinking I’d learn border collie and what. (No blood is taken, cheek swab.) Learned she has only two breeds discernable: Austrailian Shepard (that fits) and Cocker Spaniel (didn’t see that one coming). It was great fun and splendid painful anticipation while waiting for the DNA results.

Royal Hare Support Spindle

Playing with my recently arrived Royal Hare Support Spindle. It’s pictured with wool/silk/bamboo fiber from Louet and a spindle case from Royal Hare.

In response to an inquiry: I found my Royal Hare at Woodland Woolworks (CLICK HERE to go to their web site). When I ordered mine in June they were back ordered but they were finally able to ship the spindle this month.

I’m Back

Life has been really hectic. But…finished four weeks of teaching (what was I thinking when I thought adding 30 hours a week to my full time schedule was do-able). Had 10 for Easter dinner… But… papers are graded, grades are in, the house is back in order and I leave for the mountains in a week. Life is good!

The Mongold Spindle arrived with a surprize gift of fiber. Spins wonderfully. I’m so pleased.

I just made a marvelous eBay score. I won the bid on a rare Mongold Spindle. Can’t wait for it to arrive at it’s new home.

The Mongold spindle is reputed to be an amazing spinner. They were made from recycled materials and are no longer being made. Each is etched on it’s face with a pattern unique to that individual spindle. This Norge Mongold Spindle will soon have a new tropical home. More after it arrives.

Fix for SpinOlution Spindles

Apparently, there has been a wobble problem with spinning with the SpinOlution Spindles when using them as top whrol spindles. I asked Kris Pauly of SpinOlution about it. She responded:

“The fix for the wobble is to bend the hook on the spindle slightly so as to make the thread
be at the exact center of the spindle. This will correct the wobble. I am working on an
update to the website to address the issue. Mike and I were amazed at how simple the
fix was.”

Sounds easy. You Top Whorlers let me know if this does the trick.

SpinOlution Drop Spindle Set

SpinOlution has come up with another winner, drop spindles. They can be used either as a high whorl or low whorl spindle. They can be purchased in a set of three ($ 85) or purchased individually ($ 35). I’ll be listing purchase information on my Etsy site. The spindles have copper “buttons” which can be added to increase or removed to decrease the weight of the spindle. THEY WORK GREAT !
